Social media sketch

According to DMD’s Social Media and Community Manager experts, the subject of employment of a social media manager is for many unknown and misunderstood. For this reason we have created this post explaining 10 things you should never tell to a professional social media manager:

I also have an active presence on Facebook. So I could easily do what you do.

Facebook is only a small part of social media, not the entire job. We need to have very good knowledge about all Social Media as well as the way to use them to enhance the presence of a brand, in order to do this professionally.

I cannot understand the usability of Twitter

The truth is that Twitter is right now one of the most important Social Media tools for a business; it help you directly interacting with members of your community, and unlike Facebook is primarily a discussion space.

I’m wondering what do you do during your workday, aren’t you bored?

A part of the day for a social media manager is to create content, make competitions on Facebook, write monthly reports on the progress of a brand’s presence on Social Media, investigate what people are saying about a business, manage and respond to comments and customer inquiries, while also maintaining the good reputation of the brand.

But let’s be honest is social media actually a useful tool for a business?

Social Media is an ideal place to get involved in the communities where your customers participate in order to listen to and get to know them better.

What are you going to do when the social media “disappear”?

Things might evolve along with the development of technology; the different channels of communication might be transformed. However, the need for each enterprise to involve itself with online communities will always be there. Part of the job of a social media manager is to go along with the trends.

Could this job be done by somebody who didn’t have specific training on social media? An intern maybe?

The issue is not whether to do but how to do it. The person behind the social media accounts of a brand is still a face of the business and what this person says and does online has a profound impact on the brand it represents. Always remember that, as Scott Stratten said, “it takes a lifetime to build your reputation and only one tweet to the ruin”.

Does social media management worth its money?

While to open a basic social media account is indeed free, beyond that point there are charges for the use of some tools, which tools are very useful for a more dynamic presence of your business. In addition, you should consider the cost of time. The social media is alive and active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Do you actually have time to respond yourself to each post on Facebook or write to your blog while you answer in the comments?

Is that even a real job?

This is indeed a real job, including services that offer a more complete and successful presence for your business on social media. Social Media Manager is much needed to every enterprise nowadays, one who would be actively engaged in the promotion of the Social Media of the brand.
Even the simplest tweets or any other posts on Facebook or other social networks involve a lot of thinking and processing. A social media manager needs to consider beforehand if the post about to be go live really fits with the brand’s voice, bonds with their overall social media strategy, in case this post is coming from another source, if this source is truly reliable, if the facts mentioned in this post are true, and last but not least to consider if the spelling and syntax of the post are correct. And these are just some of the thoughts that are behind every post made to every social network.
